Dental implants in Baku — restoring missing teeth

Dental implantation — German Dental Clinic Baku

A dental implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. An abutment and a crown are fixed on top of it. At German Dental Clinic implant treatment starts with 3D imaging and digital planning: the position of the implant is calculated before surgery against the volume of bone and the location of the nerve canals.

When an implant is needed

  • a single missing tooth — restored without grinding down healthy neighbours for a bridge;
  • several missing teeth in a row;
  • a fully edentulous jaw — All-on-4 and All-on-6 type restorations;
  • a removable denture that will not stay in place — implants hold it stable;
  • a tooth broken beyond restoration, or a fractured root.

Treatment stages

  1. Diagnostics. Examination, CBCT (3D imaging), assessment of bone volume and density, review of general health.
  2. Planning. Implant size, angle and depth are chosen on the digital model; a surgical guide is made where needed.
  3. Surgery. The implant is placed under local anaesthetic; a single implant usually takes 30–60 minutes.
  4. Osseointegration. Fusion with the bone takes 2–3 months in the lower jaw and 3–6 months in the upper.
  5. Restoration. A healing abutment is fitted, then the abutment and an individually made crown.

When there is not enough bone

The jawbone gradually shrinks after a tooth is lost, so a long-standing gap may need an extra stage before implantation: bone grafting (augmentation), a sinus lift in the upper jaw or soft-tissue reconstruction. Only 3D imaging shows whether that stage is required.

Immediate loading

In some cases a temporary crown can be fitted on the day of surgery or within the first days. This requires sufficient primary stability and a correctly distributed bite, so the decision is only made after diagnostics. The permanent crown is made once osseointegration is complete in any case.

A fully edentulous jaw: All-on-4 and All-on-6

An edentulous jaw does not need one implant per tooth. Four or six implants act as supports for a full-arch restoration: it stays fixed, does not cover the palate the way a removable denture does, and transmits chewing forces better. The number of supporting implants is chosen according to the condition of the bone.

The first week after surgery

  • a cold compress on the cheek on day one — it limits swelling;
  • no hot, hard or spicy food for 2–3 days;
  • the antibiotic and antiseptic rinse regimen prescribed by the dentist;
  • chew on the side opposite the surgical site;
  • limit smoking and physical exertion during the first days.

Swelling and mild discomfort subside within 2–4 days. If pain increases, bleeding does not stop or a temperature develops, contact the clinic.

What determines how long an implant lasts

The tissue around an implant stays alive and needs care. Daily hygiene, professional cleaning once or twice a year, a properly distributed bite and giving up smoking prevent inflammation around the implant (peri-implantitis). Conditions such as diabetes and periodontitis are accounted for separately in the treatment plan.

Implant, bridge or removable denture

For a single missing tooth a bridge means grinding down the two neighbours — an implant leaves them untouched and keeps loading the bone, so the jaw does not shrink. A removable denture is the fastest and least invasive option, but it does not restore chewing force fully and needs periodic adjustment. Where bone volume is insufficient or general health rules out surgery, a denture or a bridge remains a sound choice. The decision follows diagnostics: the timeline, stages and effect on the neighbouring teeth are compared for all three options.

What affects the cost of dental implants in Baku

The cost of implant treatment is individual, because it depends on:

  • the number of implants and the type of restoration — a single crown, an implant-supported bridge or an All-on-4 / All-on-6 full-arch restoration;
  • the implant system — the clinic works with Straumann and MegaGen, and the system is chosen for the clinical case;
  • bone volume — where it is insufficient, bone grafting (augmentation) or a sinus lift in the upper jaw is added to the plan;
  • the abutment and crown material — for example zirconia or another ceramic;
  • diagnostics and planning — CBCT (3D imaging), a digital plan and, where needed, a surgical guide;
  • a temporary crown — when immediate loading is possible;
  • treatment needed before implantation — an extraction, or treatment of the gums or neighbouring teeth.

This is why an exact figure is given only after an examination and 3D imaging — at the consultation you receive the treatment plan and its cost together.

Frequently asked questions

Is implant placement painful?
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and is not painful. Once the anaesthetic wears off there may be mild discomfort for a few days, managed with ordinary painkillers.

How long does an implant last?
The titanium post itself does not wear out. Longevity depends mostly on the condition of the bone and gums, on hygiene and on regular review — which is why an annual check-up is part of the treatment.

Can an implant be placed straight after an extraction?
In some cases yes, if there is no infection and the socket walls are intact. Otherwise the socket is left to heal for 2–3 months.

Does smoking interfere with implants?
Smoking slows healing and raises the risk of peri-implantitis. Stopping before surgery and during the weeks after it has a direct effect on the outcome.

How much does a dental implant cost in Baku?
There is no single figure that fits every case: the cost depends on the number of implants, the implant system (Straumann or MegaGen), whether bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed, and the crown material. The exact figure is given after an examination and 3D imaging, together with the treatment plan.

What does the total cost of implant treatment consist of?
Diagnostics with 3D imaging and planning, the implant itself and its placement, the healing abutment and the abutment, and the permanent crown. Where needed, bone grafting or a sinus lift, a surgical guide and a temporary crown are added. At the consultation these stages are set out in the treatment plan.
