Aesthetic dentistry in Baku — veneers, whitening and smile design

Aesthetic dentistry — German Dental Clinic Baku

Aesthetic dentistry deals with the shape, colour and symmetry of a smile. At German Dental Clinic every aesthetic case starts with digital planning: using a photo protocol and smile design, the result can be seen on a model before treatment begins.

What aesthetic dentistry solves

  • discoloured teeth — from tea, coffee, smoking or age;
  • chips, cracks and wear on front teeth;
  • a gap between the front teeth (diastema);
  • teeth that do not match in shape or size;
  • old fillings that no longer match in colour;
  • too much gum showing when smiling (a gummy smile).

Veneers

A veneer is a thin ceramic or composite facing bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Ceramic veneers are made in the laboratory, hold their colour for a long time and need only minimal preparation. Composite veneers are shaped directly in the mouth and can be finished in a single visit, but change colour sooner. Which suits you depends on the starting condition of the tooth and the result you want.

Veneer types, the treatment steps and what drives the cost are covered on the veneers page.

Veneer or crown

A veneer covers only the front surface and is chosen when the tooth is largely intact. If the tooth is badly broken down, has become brittle after root canal treatment or carries a heavy chewing load, a crown is the sounder option: it encases the tooth and protects it from fracture.

Teeth whitening

In-office whitening uses a professional gel with light activation over one or two visits; the home protocol takes two to three weeks with custom trays and a lower-concentration gel. Both require professional hygiene and treatment of any decay first — otherwise the gel increases sensitivity and the result comes out uneven. Whitening does not act on artificial materials (fillings, veneers, crowns), so those are replaced afterwards to match the new shade.

Smile design — planning the result in advance

  1. Photo protocol and video. The smile is assessed in motion, together with facial proportions and the lip line.
  2. Digital scan and model. The new tooth shape is designed on the computer.
  3. Mock-up. The planned shape is transferred onto the teeth in a temporary material — you see the result in your own mouth.
  4. Approval and treatment. The permanent work starts only once the shape is agreed.

How long aesthetic work lasts

Ceramic keeps its colour, but the tooth carrying it and the gum around it need care. Daily hygiene, professional cleaning once or twice a year and a night guard where there is bruxism all affect how long the work lasts. A habit of clenching or grinding can chip veneer edges — this is identified in advance and accounted for in the plan.

Preparing for aesthetic treatment

Aesthetic work is built on a healthy foundation. Decay is therefore treated, gum inflammation resolved and professional hygiene carried out before veneers or whitening: an inflamed gum makes the margin line impossible to reproduce accurately, and plaque distorts both shade selection and the quality of bonding. Where the bite is off, an orthodontic stage is sometimes planned first — with the teeth in the right position less preparation is needed and the result looks more natural.

Gum contour and the gummy smile

Smile aesthetics are not made of teeth alone: the line and symmetry of the gum decide the result as much as tooth shape does. If too much gum shows when you smile, or the contour is uneven, the gum level is corrected before veneers are placed — otherwise even a perfectly shaped tooth looks short and asymmetric.

Frequently asked questions

How much of the tooth is removed for a veneer?
A ceramic veneer usually needs minimal preparation of 0.3–0.7 mm, and in some cases none at all. The exact amount is decided after diagnostics and the mock-up stage.

Is whitening harmful to enamel?
Whitening carried out to a professional protocol and at the right concentration does not damage the enamel structure. Sensitivity for a few days afterwards is common and is managed with fluoride products.

How long does the result last?
Whitening typically holds for 1–2 years depending on diet and smoking, and can be repeated; ceramic veneers last considerably longer.

Do veneers look natural?
Yes — the translucency and shade of the ceramic are matched to the neighbouring teeth, and the shape is planned around your facial proportions and lip line.
