Veneers

Veneers in Baku — porcelain and composite

A veneer is a thin ceramic or composite shell bonded to the front surface of a tooth to change its colour, shape and size. At German Dental Clinic in Baku, ceramic veneers are designed and made in our own digital lab in the same building, and you see the shape of your new smile in advance — on a digital model and as a mock-up placed directly on your teeth.

When veneers are used

  • tooth colour that does not respond to whitening;
  • chipped, cracked or worn front teeth;
  • a gap between teeth (diastema);
  • teeth that do not match in shape or size;
  • old, discoloured fillings on front teeth.

When a veneer is not the first choice

  • The tooth is badly broken down, brittle after root canal treatment or under heavy chewing load — a crown is more reliable because it covers the tooth on all sides (crowns from the clinic lab).
  • The teeth are crooked or crowded — in some cases an orthodontic stage or clear aligners come first: with the teeth in the right position, less preparation is needed and the result looks more natural.
  • There is decay or gum inflammation — these are treated first, followed by professional hygiene.

Types of veneers

  • Ceramic (porcelain) veneers — made in the lab, hold their colour for a long time and need minimal reduction of the tooth (usually 0.3–0.7 mm). Translucency and shade are matched to the neighbouring teeth.
  • Composite veneers — built up directly in the mouth and can be finished in one visit, but change colour faster over time.
  • Thin, minimal-prep veneers — in some cases no reduction is needed at all; this only becomes clear after diagnostics and the mock-up.

Which type suits you depends on the starting condition of the tooth and the result you expect.

How veneers are placed, step by step

  1. Consultation and photo protocol. The smile is assessed in motion, together with facial features and the lip line.
  2. Digital scan and smile design. Primescan captures a 3D model without impression paste, and the new tooth shape is designed on a computer.
  3. Mock-up. The future shape is transferred onto the teeth in temporary material, so you see the result in your mouth.
  4. Preparation. Once the shape is approved, the tooth is minimally prepared; if needed, temporaries printed on Primeprint are placed.
  5. Manufacture and bonding. The veneers are made in the clinic lab; the dentist checks fit, shade and bite before bonding them.

The number of visits depends on how many teeth are treated and on the preparatory stage, and is set out in the treatment plan.

What an in-house lab means for you

The scan and the finished work never leave the building: the veneer is designed and made on site, fit and shade are checked under the dentist and adjusted straight away if needed. That means less waiting and fewer visits; for patients from abroad, most of the treatment can fit into a single trip — see dental tourism.

What determines the cost of veneers

The cost of veneers is individual, because it depends directly on:

  • the material — ceramic or composite;
  • the number of teeth receiving veneers;
  • smile design, mock-up and digital planning;
  • the preparatory stage — treating decay, professional hygiene, whitening the remaining teeth, orthodontics if needed;
  • whether the gum contour needs correcting before the veneers are placed.

This is why an exact figure is given only after an examination and smile design — at the consultation you receive the treatment plan and its cost together. More on veneer types and what drives the price in the article veneer prices in Baku.

Caring for veneers

  • daily hygiene and professional cleaning once or twice a year — ceramic keeps its colour, but the tooth and gum underneath need care;
  • do not crack nutshells or open packaging with your teeth;
  • clenching or grinding (bruxism) can chip veneer edges — in that case a night guard is worn.

Frequently asked questions

How much of the tooth is removed for a veneer?
A ceramic veneer usually needs only minimal preparation of 0.3–0.7 mm, and in some cases no reduction at all. The exact amount is decided after diagnostics and the mock-up stage.

Is getting veneers painful?
If preparation is needed, it is done under local anaesthesia. Mild sensitivity is possible for a few days after bonding and then passes.

Can veneers be done in one day?
Composite veneers are built up directly in the mouth and can be finished in one visit. Ceramic veneers are made in the clinic lab once the shape has been approved on the mock-up; the timeline depends on the number of teeth and is set out in the treatment plan.

How long do veneers last?
It depends on the material, hygiene and whether you grind your teeth. Ceramic veneers keep their colour noticeably longer than composite ones; composite veneers may need polishing or renewal over time.

Can veneers be whitened?
No — whitening does not act on artificial materials. So if you want a lighter shade, your natural teeth are whitened first and the veneer shade is then matched to them.

Do veneers look natural?
Yes — the translucency and shade of the ceramic are matched to the neighbouring teeth, and the shape is planned around your facial features and lip line.

Can I get veneers if I grind my teeth?
Yes, but bruxism is identified before treatment and built into the plan: a night guard is printed in the clinic lab to protect the veneer edges — see gnathology.

Veneer or crown — which should I choose?
A veneer if the tooth is largely intact and only its appearance needs to change. A crown if the tooth is badly broken down, brittle after root canal treatment or under heavy chewing load. The dentist makes the final call after an examination.

How much do veneers cost in Baku?
The price depends on the material, the number of teeth and the preparatory stage, so the exact figure is given after an examination and smile design, together with the treatment plan.
